Nice to meet you
Stuck is a team of individuals who are passionate about the creation, design, and depth of brands. To us, the word brand is interchangeable with identity. While we create logos, names and websites, our focus is always on the strength of the identity being reflected. Stuck is about discovering and forming memorable brand identities, whether it’s personal, corporate, or non-profit. We are driven to create unique brands that are not only memorable; but evolving, relevant, and unmistakably Stuck.
THE BAZOOKA, THE MINIMALIST & HIP-HOP SHAKESPEARE
Daniel Chen
Besides being a Mixed Media graduate from Emily Carr, Dan’s credentials as Stuck’s founder and Art Director include a sharp aesthetic eye, and an even sharper instinct for business branding. Dan’s savvy for branding comes in part from his own experience as an entrepreneur. Like many of his clients, he has always been self-employed and has never been a company man.
When asked what he would grab on his way out of the hypothetical burning house, Dan replied, “Clean socks, shoes, underwear . . . and maybe my phone and computer. But definitely clean socks!” This speaks of Dan’s meticulous nature; he naturally zeroes in on the details so that when he plans the big picture for a company, every factor (good and bad) has already been considered. Every company wants the strategies and tools to get to the next level. Well, when it comes to strategies and tools, Dan thinks maps and guns are good, but satellites and Bazookas are better.
Randy Lowe
As Stuck’s resident Web Developer, what Randy loves most is the challenge of building something from start to finish, and creating a tangible experience out of a concept. With web technology being as broad as it is, Randy’s job is to know how to apply it to a certain objective, translating Stuck’s artistic vision through images and written content. Programmers are usually designers or developers, but Randy is one of the rare ones who enjoy wearing both hats in his work.
Randy is a minimalist through and through, and would run out of a hypothetical burning house with only his iPhone in hand. His approach to writing websites is similar: Randy is all about cleaning out unnecessary code, building upon the foundation of a strong creative vision, and emphasizing what really matters. For Randy, what really matters (besides a good meal) is creating an enjoyable user experience that represents and aligns with a given brand.
Echo Quan
Every company needs a good nerd. Echo happily takes on this role as Stuck’s copywriter, drawing from her a mental library of literary, film and pop culture references (she thinks everything can be answered by Shakespeare, The Godfather, or hip hop lyrics). She also has a BA Honours in English Literature from SFU, and spent a few years practicing Tokyo drifting into her driveway and working on a MA in Creative Writing at the University of Calgary.
If Echo had to save her things from a burning house, it’s very possible that she might not make it out because she sees meaning in everything. At the very least, she would suffer from smoke inhalation while grabbing vintage tees and old journals. Now that’s someone invested in the story behind things, and this applies to branding. What Echo loves about branding is that she gets to help create brand stories that are authentic, multidimensional, and relevant. For Echo, these characteristics are what make a classic.
